Another Year Older....
I am now offically 19 years old.
Which means I am only 11 years away from turning 30.
My birthday was mainly uneventful. My boyfriend bought me flowers, cake, oreos, cream soda, a sappy card and a sewing machine. We then headed out to dinner, rented some movies and spent the rest of the night cuddled up on the coach, until one of his friends came over and insisted on talking over one of the movies I was trying to watch.
Over the past year I have actually done alot. I completed a semester of college, moved twice, got pregnant, got my first job, quit my first job and did alot of other stuff too. I feel complete with what I have accomplished so far.
Yet, I know I have so much more to do with my life. I have some much I need to do within the next year..so here are some goals....
-start a feminist zine or online magazine for 18-25 yos
-do some sort of volunteer work
-complete at least 5 websites for my design portfilio
-start working on Dirt Bags; a charity project my boyfriend thought up
-start growing food
-start saving money
-visit Falling Water and Alagani (sp) national park
-read more feminist, philosphy and science books...get a libary card
-paint more, learn more about art
My most important goal is to just stay myself. I know with parenthood and being in a serious relationship with someone, I could easily lose touch with who I am and what I want. I don't want to do that. I don't want to become another woman, who looks back and wonders what the heck happened to HER goals and what SHE wanted.
Baby update: I'm more the halfway through this whole pregnancy thing now and so far things are going great. Baby is moving constantly and has even kicked me hard enough to wake me up a few times. The closer we get to the due date (Dec. 15) it seems like the more people come forward who want to give us stuff, so I luckily I don't have to be concerned about not having what we need. I bought my first pair of maternity pants a week ago and I'm starting to get used to being alot heavier. Sometimes I even forget I have this huge belly on me, it just seems natural now.
Happy birthday!
Nice list of goals there!
(What's the big 3-0 mean to you, by the way? Seems like you've got it set as an important marker. Just curious, especially as someone starting to flirt with that big 4-0 marker.)
Want some seeds, to help with your food growing goal? I have heirloom tomoatoes growing like crazy in my garden, so could easily harvest you some glorious seed (especially for these GORGEOUS tigerellas, and this smoky, chocolately-tasting black prince romas I have going). I also could gather up a pile of other seed in short order. :)
Happy birthday!
Mine is coming up in short order as well :). Yay, birthdays!
Happy Birthday, Brooke! I
Happy Birthday, Brooke! I hope you get everything you want out of the next year.
(Also, you'll have to tell us more about 'Dirt Bags.' I'm intrigued. It sounds like a fun project.)
Happy Birthday! I wish you
Happy Birthday! I wish you the best of luck in the next year.
Those look like some pretty sound goals, and I'm glad your pregnancy is going well. One of my earliest memories is feeling my little brother kicking inside of my mother. I'd just learned to read at the time, so I tried to read "Are You My Mother?" to him. It was kind of cute.
(And I'm with Andrea--tell us about the project!)
30 is an age I have been
30 is an age I have been thinking about lately because my boyfriend turned 30 on the 6th and my sister is turning 30 this year. I kind of see it as the year I will have to be responsible for my actions in a different way. I think when your young you can make alot of excuses for things based on inexperience or just lack of time. But by 30 your expected to have certain things done.
As far as the tomato thing, thanks for the offer, but I think I should start out with an already growing plant, as it will be my first time growing something like that. If you could suggest some good reading materials for growing stuff that would help me alot.
For sure!
My friend Gayla Trail's book "You Grow Girl," is the best-ever book I have seen for just-starting gardeners. It's a treasure trove.
(Plus, Gayla rules, so it's nice to support her.)
Oh as far as the Dirt Bags
Oh as far as the Dirt Bags thing, well you know how at some grocery stores they give you a few cents off when you use re-usable bags? Well we were thinking we could sell bags made out of hemp and get the stores that gave people a discount for using bags, to instead donate that money to a group of environmentally friendly charities and projects if people used our bags. The bags would say Dirt Bags, just to get people's attention and we would include some of the different charities on the bags as well to draw attention to them...the website would also have that information and the organization's links.
Happy Birthday, Brooke! Hope
Happy Birthday, Brooke! Hope you manage to accomplish all those goals. The Dirt Bags project sounds pretty awesome.
Happy Birthday Brooke!!!
That sounds like a perfect birthday to me... I'll have to make my bf read your blog so he can get ideas. I have been wanting a sewing machine FOREVER!
It is a lot easier to begin w/ already started plants, but growing from seed is pretty simple too. There are various internet sources that can help you out on the growing conditions needed for your area. There is a blog community called You Grow Girl that I love; www.yougrowgirl.com (but you could find it on google if I'm wrong on the url). Gardening has been a huge stress releiver in my life and fresh, organic fruits/vegies will be a healthy choice for your new family.
Good luck in the next year; you have a lot ahead of you.
